Quicksands
Quicksands is David McLay Kidd's 14-hole short course at Gamble Sands, par 42 over 1,600 yards, with holes ranging from a 60-yard flip wedge to a full 180-yard mid-iron.
It rewards creativity—bump-and-runs, bank shots off the slopes, putts from well off the green—as much as it rewards a good wedge game.
Quicksands packs fourteen par 3s of 60 to 180 yards into twelve acres, with hole names—Plinko, Crater, Donut—that tell you exactly what you're in for. Greens backstop, feed, and in one famous case ring a pit of sand you putt around. Buried speakers play music the whole way; nobody keeps score for long.
