The Phoenician's course was originally a 27-hole Ted Robinson layout from 1981; in 2018, after a ten-month rebuild, Phil Smith rerouted it into a single, cohesive 18 at the base of Camelback Mountain. The design keeps every hazard in view—no blind shots, no surprise bunkers—and sends the back nine climbing into the mountainside for its most dramatic holes.
It's been on Golf Advisor's Most Improved list and among Golf Digest's top resort courses since the redo. Managed by Troon, it plays as a cart-golf resort round—wide-open desert framing, big mountain and city views, and Old Town Scottsdale waiting after.
