Scottsdale is the desert's golf capital, and its resort courses cover the range: The Phoenician against Camelback Mountain, Coore & Crenshaw's two at Talking Stick out on the Salt River, and the classic Adobe and newer Links at the historic Arizona Biltmore. Wide Sonoran framing, mountain and city views, and green fairways cut into the desert.

It's a golf-and-more trip—Camelback and the Sonoran trailheads, Old Town Scottsdale's galleries and restaurants, the Desert Botanical Garden and Taliesin West all close by. November through April is peak golf and peak rates; summer runs hot enough to send tee times to dawn.
