Torrey Pines (North)
The North is Torrey Pines' friendlier course, and to many its prettier one: Tom Weiskopf reworked William F. Bell's original in 2016, opening up more of the clifftop ocean views the South keeps for its back nine. It shares the same La Jolla bluffs and Pacific backdrop, and co-hosts the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open—players see both courses in the early rounds.
At 7,258 yards, par 72, it plays shorter and softer than its brutal brother, and it costs a good deal less. It's the round for the group that wants the Torrey Pines experience without the South's full punishment—still a real test from the tips, far more forgiving from the middle.
Weiskopf's par-5 17th plays through the North's native canyon scrub to a green set beneath a single, wind-bent Torrey pine—the tree that gives the place its name—with the Pacific filling the horizon behind. It's the North at its most photogenic, and a genuine birdie chance to close the round.
