The Broadmoor has been a golf destination since 1918, when Donald Ross laid out the original course at this Colorado Springs grand resort; Robert Trent Jones Sr. later reshaped and expanded it into today's East and West. The East has tested the best at U.S. Women's Opens, U.S. Senior Opens, and U.S. Amateurs.

Play is restricted to overnight resort and member guests, which keeps both courses uncrowded and gives visitors a private-club feel alongside the Forbes Five-Star lodging, dining, and spa. At roughly 6,200 feet, the thin air adds carry—club down.
